Electricity at Work Regulations require that there is a legal responsibility by employers and the self-employed to complete Fixed Wire (17th Edition) Testing at their premises. This is the testing of the electrical system within a premises from the main electrical intake or fuse board to the electrical outlets (eg sockets or lighting), including the wiring & circuits inbetween. The report that is completed is known now as an EICR or Electrical Inspection and Condition Report.
Most electrical installations suffer damage and deterioration throughout their operational life which makes Fixed Wire Testing essential in confirming the safe operation of the installation, protecting against Fire, Shock and Burns.
Electrical testing will also be a requirement of your insurance policy. If you are unlucky enough to have an Electrical Accident or Electrical Fire without Certificated Electrical Testing your insurance company will have grounds to Reject your Claim.
